Achieving Success Part 2
Success defined and accepted becomes your vision. Achieving success, or your vision is a process. Unless you stumble upon the winning lotto ticket and you define your success in that winning lotto ticket, you will yet have some real work to do.
You must PRIORITIZE & ORGANIZE your way towards achieving your vision.
Consider some of the various aspects of your life: Family, Friends, Career, Personal Growth, Recreation, Travel, Education, and the list goes on...
Consider creating categories on a yellow pad for each of the various aspects. You will likely need to consider sub categories as well.
As an Example: Supposing you have a category labeled: PERSONAL HEALTH
you will need to sub categorize:
Exercise
Diet
Rest
... within each of these subcategories you may want to further label: EXERCISE
Aerobic
Anaerobic
Stretching
You get the idea?
You need to plan out or organize yourself and then prioritize the categories & subcategories...
Three reasons for creating categories from the aspects of your life are:
1. There are several varying areas to consider allocating time and effort toward.
2. There are inter dependent relationships amongst the categories and subcategories.
3. There are simply only so many hours in each day! 24, I believe!
Breaking it down this way and putting some pencils and yellow pad to use here is designed to help you decide what is most important and what you must act upon immediately, how your choices will effect other efforts and how important it is to PRIORITIZE & ORGANIZE.
You may well discover the need to put off one endeavor despite it's attraction, simply because you must achieve in another area of your life, before you can possibly consider the area you initially desired to act upon. Likewise there will be areas than can be advanced upon simultaneously.
This used to be called," Killing Two Birds With One Stone."
This old school stuff, still works!
Though some will say, its not politically correct. My reply to that is.......bleeped.
So with your definition of success, comes your vision, then organize and prioritize yourself.
In Part 3, we will discuss ...THE BLUEPRINT. This will come in a later post, so stay tuned.
Today's Workout 6/24/09
BIKE: 20 minutes, 5.80 miles, stationary, easy spin.
RUN: 60 minutes, 6.23 miles, treadmill, tempo.
Another one of those mornings, don't really feel like working out, somehow I end up in the fitness center with the idea of doing a 20/20, BIKE/RUN. The bike goes well enough and I start up the treadmill thinking maybe, maybe I can go the 60 minutes, sure enough I get it done.
PERSONAL RECORDS; Don't think I have ever put in a full 60 minutes running on the treadmill before today. Combine yesterday's two treadmill runs totalling 4.45 miles with today's 6.23 and that makes 10.68 miles on treadmill over two days, no doubt a record as well. Am I becoming a treadmill runner? I think not, though as mentioned in an earlier post a few weeks ago, I used to despise the treadmill, now I find it useful and am setting new personal bests on it!
I will probably hit the trail or road tomorrow to get a bit of variety.
Run for the health of it.

Great start to a Friday. Early meeting, followed by meeting that ran long, then the trip back to the Bay. Hideous traffic to battle in Fairfield, Vallejo, and through Oakland. A miserable way to travel when you just want to get home. Oh well, survived it all. Another day tomorrow. Bye.

Today's Workout 6/18/09
I have eliminated the PM caffeine and have been back on a more routine schedule for few days now. My sleep quality, overall hours of sleep and strength have improved. I really noticed how good I felt today. An easy 6 mile jog, a short swim and a strong bike ride on the road bike averaging 16.9 mph, over 22 miles, with really good legs. I attribute the performance to proper sleep. I hope I can continue along this path to feeling better, improved performance and with the quality of plentiful sleep.
M, X60
RUN
66 minutes, 6 miles, trail run, easy.600 yards.
SWIM
15 minutes, 600 yards.
BIKE
80 minutes, 22.5 miles, 16.9 mph. Road bike, good legs, strong ride.
Later today, after work I will be heading up to Lake Tahoe on business for just a night over. I may have more time driving up and back than actual time in working meetings. It's okay it is part of what I do and I am indeed happy to do it. Meeting in Tahoe? No, I cannot complain about that. I have it in my mind to get a nice run in up there on Friday morning on the trail I discovered while up there a couple of weeks ago. Yes, it's all good. Will post again, sometime on Friday, in the meantime...don't settle for being good, be great! Enjoy it all.

Pulling Yourself Up
One must decide to take action, to do something differently. Hows your diet? Are you getting the right vitamins and supplements? How much exercise are you getting? How is your attitude?
Are you getting plenty of sleep and rest? What thoughts are you running through your head?
Are you taking time for yourself? Analyze the balance or lack of balance in your life. Sometimes you just have to endure, other times you have to plow through the phase you are in and power through the slump by taking immediate and definitive ACTION.
They way we feel comes from the thoughts that we dwell upon. If you get angry or sad, it comes from the thoughts in your mind. The same is true when you are happy or content. It is the thoughts that determine our feelings. If you desire to change the way you feel, examine the thoughts you are running through your mind. Change your thoughts and you change the way you feel. Think about it. Pull yourself up. You can if you think you can. Think you can?

Fabulous Friday. Another great day. Work today. Meetings next week in Sunriver, Oregon. Heading up north on Sunday. Will take a couple of vacation days together with the business trip. Staying at the cabin. Traveling with JB, driving his rig with boat. Planning on some seriously (fun) fishing up there on the off time. Will put in at East Lake and see what happens. Looking forward to the work at hand and some good times in the R & R category. We ain't left yet? No, not yet. Calm down. Sunday. Will also take the opportunity to get some training camp time in and maintain some good bike and run workouts up there at 4200. Will invite the guys over to the cabin after work to check out the place and enjoy some off time with my co workers. Wii bowling? Who knows? Okay. Talk to y'all later.

Today's Workout 6/2/09
Can't do it all correctly on a 24/7 basis, Balance is the key. Rest, deviation from routine, all are necessary to maintian the overall effort in the long run. Do something and do the best you can and take a break when you need one.
Morning is Good
Thank you, to those of you who take your time to comment on the varied words and thoughts that I post here. It is interesting and meaningful to get feedback. Thank you! Followers are encouraged to apply.
I am without a doubt a morning person. I get up early and am most productive in the AM hours.
Getting the exercise in, posting here, organizing the day, basic chores. I like to feel productive and I am out of my element when I cannot feel as though I am contributing and producing. So I seek to feel productive and the only way I can feel productive is to actually be productive and that means GET IT DONE! Or at minimum, get it started. Coffee is helpful. What you did or did not do the day before is a factor, sleep and quality sleep is a major factor as well, but its mostly a mental mindset and established habits that work.
Some people are night creatures and just as they cannot conceive of what I do in the early AM hours, I don't really understand the night owl routine. So be it. Call it wiring. Call it what you will, it comes down to what you do and the habits you create. Sure you can break habits. But you don't want to be in the habit of habit breaking, no then your drifting, just like this post. My point is this: I like the morning, getting fired up to start the day and achieving something, that's just who I am. Might as well thrive on it. It seems to work. Okay so get moving....I AM, later.
