Cycling Fan Notes

Cycling: The Tour of Italy, known as The Giro is underway. Lance Armstrong is in 22nd place at this point, following a tough mountian stage yesterday, where he lost 2:58 on the climb. As a Lance follower and fan, I can't expect him to win the Giro, but I cannot count him out. The hope is that he is riding himself into top condition. There are many miles yet to ride. This is the 100th year celebration of the Tour of Italy and the first year that Lance has ridden in the Giro. It has been an interesting race so far and I expect it will get only more exciting as the tour moves on.

The Tour of California for 2010 has been moved from February to May. Why? The unpredictable California weather in February has motivated Tour officials to seek better weather, thus the month of May. The May dates for the Tour of California will conflict with the Giro in 2010. Teams will now have to decide between the 2 Tours. The Giro is a 3 week tour while the California tour is just a week long. I would expect some of the bigger and more well funded teams to supply riders for both tours, with the big name European riders opting to ride the Giro. It will be interesting to see just how it all shakes out .

Today is Bike To Work Day, and the Month of May is Bike Month. Thousands of Cyclists will be riding to work today across the country. Lets be careful out there! Yours truly did not bike to work today. However, on Sunday there will be a group ride meeting at the Alpine Inn in Portola Valley at 9:45 am, and heading out through PV, Woodside and along Canada Road to the Highway 92 intersection and then back, this is about a 30-32 mile road bike ride for recreational cyclists. Lunch at the Alpine Inn, following the ride. Did someone mention cold beer? It is supposed to exceed 90 degrees on Sunday, lets get hydrated, no not with beer! We will save that option for after the ride.
